7:00 PM - 9:00 PMsocial hall

Have you ever wanted to start an online family tree, but didn't know where or how to start? Are you curious about your family's lineage or early origins? Do you want to understand how genetics plays into your roots? This class will introduce you to an online genealogy program, www.geni.com, and how to get started on your own family tree.

The class will also cover:

  • Popular websites such as Ancestry.com and 23andMe,com.
  • How to find information from census records and passenger ship manifests.
  • Can a DNA test determine Jewish status?
  • What is the Kohen gene?
  • Forensic Genealogy and how it caught the "Golden State" killer.

The class will be taught by David Fisher. David has over 17 years of experience working in NYC's largest forensic DNA laboratory. He has worked on thousands of homicides, sexual assaults, and property crime cases involving forensic DNA typing. David has testified as an expert in DNA on many occasions and is an avid genealogist in his spare time. David is currently the director of the new Forensic Science program at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT).
