Job Description: Rabbi
Congregation Beth Aaron in Teaneck, NJ, is seeking a Rabbi to serve as our spiritual leader starting in the
summer of 2026. Founded in 1972, Beth Aaron is one of Teaneck’s longest-standing Modern Orthodox
congregations, known for its warm, welcoming atmosphere and robust religious life. We are a vibrant community
of approximately 220 member families, deeply committed to halachic observance, Torah learning, Am Yisrael,
and Medinat Yisrael.
Our shul offers multiple daily minyanim and prides itself on extensive Torah learning opportunities – including
daily Daf Yomi and a weekday morning Mishnah study group, nightly shiurim, and regular scholar-in-residence
programs – as well as a vibrant youth department and active Men’s Club and Sisterhood. The Rabbi will be
expected to provide religious guidance and inspiration within this thriving, close-knit kehila. The ideal candidate
will lead us into our next chapter by building on Beth Aaron’s strong foundation of Torah, tefilla, chesed, and
connection to Eretz Yisrael.
Key Responsibilities
· Halachic Leadership: Provide halachic guidance for the congregation, answering members’ halachic questions
and guiding religious practice in accordance with Orthodox standards and the nuanced needs of our community.
· Teaching & Inspiration: Prepare and deliver regular Torah classes and inspiring derashot, including on Shabbat
and Yom Tov, to promote ongoing learning and spiritual growth among congregants.
· Pastoral Care: Offer compassionate pastoral care and personal guidance to congregants. This includes
counseling individuals and families, supporting aveilim, and officiating at life-cycle events (from brit milah and
bar/bat mitzvahs to weddings and funerals) in accordance with Halacha.
· Community Engagement: Actively engage with members of all ages and backgrounds to build strong personal relationships. Attend and participate in synagogue programs, youth activities, and social events to foster a
close-knit, inclusive community where each congregant feels valued.
· Collaborative Leadership: Work closely with Beth Aaron’s lay leadership (Board, Gabbaim, and committees)
to plan and implement religious, educational, and social programming that addresses the needs of the
congregation. Provide vision and input on shul initiatives.
· Ambassador of Values: Represent Congregation Beth Aaron in the broader Jewish and local community,
exemplifying our core religious and ethical values in all interactions. Uphold and promote the shul’s commitment
o Klal Yisrael and our strong support for Medinat Yisrael.
Qualifications and Qualities
Requirements: Orthodox Semicha is required. Prior rabbinic experience – for example, serving as a synagogue
Rabbi, assistant/associate Rabbi, or Rabbinic intern – is strongly preferred for this role.
· Torah Scholarship: A respected Talmid Chacham with deep knowledge of Halacha and Jewish learning.
The Rabbi should be recognized for his halachic expertise and commitment to lifelong Torah study.
· Halachic Judgment: Demonstrated appreciation for nuance and sensitivity in halachic decision-making.
The ideal Rabbi can apply halacha with wisdom and compassion, providing guidance that is principled yet
understanding of individual circumstances.
· Inspiring Speaker: A strong and inspiring orator with excellent communication skills. Able to deliver engaging
derashot and lectures that educate, inspire, and speak to a diverse Modern Orthodox audience.
· Warmth and Charisma: Possesses a charismatic, warm, and approachable presence. Capable of connecting
with people personally and creating an atmosphere of welcome, energy, and positivity in the shul.
· Relationship Builder: Personable and empathetic, with a talent for building deep personal relationships with
congregants across all ages and levels of observance. Able to relate to youth, adults, and seniors alike,
fostering trust and a sense of family within the community.
Compensation:
The compensation range for this position is $140K to 215k/year, including salary/parsonage/retirement benefits.
Ancillary expenses of the rabbinic office will be negotiated based on the needs of the rabbinic candidate.
The Rabbi may maintain outside employment in accordance with our community’s needs. Salary will be
commensurate with experience.
