Cholent Challenge Rules

• All Cholent Challengers will supply their own ingredients – meat, onions, barley, beans, vegetables, herbs, spices, ketchup, sauces. The Men’s Club will provide water.
• All ingredients must be in new, unopened, sealed packages with appropriate kashrus certification - no exceptions! If you have a question about certifications, please speak with Rabbi Rothwachs.
• The entire cholent must be prepared and cooked in the Beth Aaron Kitchen. You will not be able to use any other pots or pans other than a crock pot / slow cooker.
• The Men’s Club will provide measuring cups/spoons, cutting boards, peelers and knives. If you have a special request, please let us know, we’ll do our best to accommodate you.
• All cholents will cook in identical5 qt crock pots, provided by the Men’s Club at no charge.
• All cholents will be prepared Thursday night, January 14th. You will be asked to pick a time slot during which to prepare your cholent, starting at 8 pm until 9:45pm.
• Once a time slot has been booked, you are entered in the Cholent Challenge. There is a limit of ten Challengers/cholents for this event, so book your time slot early. One Challenger per household, please.
• Cholents will be plugged in for cooking Thursday night and will cook until 7:45pm when the tasting event begins.
• Voting at the Cholent Challenge will be double-blind. Only one member of the Men’s Club Board will know which cholent is which.
• Voters will be able to vote for multiple cholents.
• Cholents will be judged by those who attend the Friday night event.
• The cholent with the most points will win the Grand Prize, a $50 gift certificate to Amazon. In case of a tie, the Grand Prize will be split evenly among the winners.
• Winners will be announced in shul the shabbat morning.
